I've been a fan of Uber for years, as I'm sure many of you are. Last week, I had the chance to give a workshop to their team working on expanding the platform. This team, which includes people from Amsterdam, Sweden, Belgium and Finland, works closely together. During the workshop, we looked at how they can work more efficiently and how AI tools can help them do so. You can read more about it below.
Planning undisturbed time and optimising your schedule
We started by discussing how our brain works and how to use your brain as efficiently as possible. Because certainly even without AI, there is SO much to gain.
The importance of undisturbed time in your diary was often stressed. By consciously setting aside time in your diary without interruptions, you can fully concentrate on your work. Without 'tiring' your brain of that meeting you have to get to. This can be done with techniques such as batching and time blocking, for example, which, in addition to giving you undisturbed time, also gives you more peace and overview in your week. Which can greatly improve focus and productivity.
Gijs Meeder, responsible for Sales, Growth & Expansion within Uber, said this about it:
"Sanne's agenda tips were discussed a lot after the workshop and shared with other colleagues in a best practices meeting."
Working smarter with AI
We then discussed AI tools such as ChatGPT, tools for creating images and videos and useful tools for taking notes in meetings, for example.
ChatGPT is a tool that most people are familiar with, but which in our experience is often only 5% used. For example, using GPTs (self-trained chats), is a hugely useful 'feature' that makes work much faster and easier. And especially shorten the things you don't enjoy doing as much in terms of time.
Uber's team now uses ChatGPT mainly for text checking (legal & privacy checking), they have built a GPT for SQL training, and the dedicated team is going to create its own GPT for onboarding new employees. Which removes a lot of time and ambiguity anyway. Nice right!

Results of the AI workshop at Uber
After the workshop, the Uber team saw immediate improvements in their work processes. Calendar tips were widely discussed and shared, leading to better planning and higher productivity. The AI tools are already helping personalise customer interactions, which is going to further increase their efficiency. Of course, it still takes practice and time to make it a new habit. But this is definitely a fertile ground for behavioural change and growth. Gijs added:
"Sanne's workshop perfectly matched our goals. Her enthusiasm and knowledge gave us valuable insights and practical tips."
The workshop with Uber shows how AI and productivity training can help you work more efficiently and collaborate better within a team. Even when working together remotely. And in a different language.
